Overview
Davi’s practice is defined by an iconoclastic approach that reconfigures symbols and imagery drawn from the visual repertoire of ancient civilizations. His work condenses timeless elements tied to art history, reinterpreting myths, legends, and belief systems across cultures and historical periods. Engaging archetypal themes such as the creation of the world, the struggle between good and evil, the origin of humankind, and death, Davi constructs a symbolic universe populated by deities, heroes, and spiritual emblems.
His compositions evoke clan insignias and ritualistic iconography, unfolding within dreamlike and often delirious environments that suggest self-contained cosmogonies. While resonating with surrealist traditions, his visual language remains distinctly contemporary, grounded in a synthesis of historical consciousness and speculative imagination. Davi’s interdisciplinary practice is further distinguished by a strong emphasis on materiality, combining concrete and iron structures with fresco-like oil paintings, frequently executed on both sides of the support. This approach enables non-linear narrative developments and spatial storytelling, reinforcing conceptual links between past, present, and future.
Recent exhibitions include Adiar o fim do mundo at FGV Arte, Rio de Janeiro (2025), and Cannibal Nature at Baró Galeria, Palma de Mallorca (2025). In 2024, he presented Territórios Desviantes at Galeria Marco Zero, Recife, and Alado at Galeria Refresco, Rio de Janeiro. His work is part of the collection of the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (MNBA), Rio de Janeiro.
