Eva Lootz (b. Vienna; lives and works in Madrid) studied philosophy and fine arts in Vienna and holds a degree in film and television directing. She moved to Spain in the late 1960s and began exhibiting in 1973. Emerging from anti-expressive, process-based approaches that sought to expand the concept of art, her work has evolved toward intersensory, enveloping spaces, or what she calls "continuous art." Working across heterogeneous registers, she explores the interaction between matter and language through materials such as sand, water, salt and thread, and through drawing understood as a form of thought.
Her solo exhibitions include the South London Gallery (1994), the Palacio de Cristal of the Museo Reina Sofía (2002), Fundació Suñol (2009, 2023), the Museo Reina Sofía (2024), Kunsthaus Baselland (2025) and Casal Solleric, Palma (2026). She has also exhibited at the Museo Nacional del Prado, IVAM and the Palais Populaire, Berlin, and realized public interventions for Expo '92 in Seville and Expo 08 in Zaragoza. She taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cuenca and is the author of five books. Her awards include the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas (1994), the Premio Arte y Mecenazgo (2013) and the Premio de Artes Plásticas de la Comunidad de Madrid (2022). Her work is held in the collections of the Museo Reina Sofía, MACBA, ARTIUM and IVAM, among others.
