José Paiani Spaniol (São Luiz Gonzaga RS 1960). Painter, draughtsman, engraver, sculptor and teacher. Between 1978 and 1983, he studied fine arts at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (Faap), in São Paulo, and took engraving classes with Evandro Carlos Jardim (1935). At the same time, he attends live-model and landscape painting courses at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (Pesp). In this institution, in 1985 and 1986, he guides painting and engraving workshops. In 1988 and 1989, he was professor of fine arts at Faap. He held the solo show Pinturas e Objetos, in 1989, at Pesp. He lives in Cologne, Germany, between 1990 and 1993, as a fellow of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauch Dienst – DAAD [German Academic Exchange Service]. In 2003, with Marco Giannotti (1966), Mário Ramiro (1957) and Osmar Pinheiro (1950-2006), he created the teaching and research space in art Oficina Virgílio, in São Paulo. In the same year, he had a solo exhibition at the Alfredo Andersen Museum, in Curitiba.
