Room 2 | Antonio Kuschnir: Dónde florece lo salvaje
Critical essay by Ana Vilela
The work of Antonio Kuschnir (Rio de Janeiro, 2001) is characterized by an intense exploration of narrative in painting, where he combines characters, objects, and landscapes from different eras in nonlinear compositions. His work engages in dialogue with great masters such as Picasso, Matisse, and Cézanne but from a contemporary perspective that incorporates metalanguage and references to his own artistic production. With a mostly subdued palette contrasted by vibrant accents, Kuschnir constructs dreamlike and evocative atmospheres. His interest in theater is reflected in the scenography of his paintings, where elements such as curtains and fragmented compositions suggest a staged performance within the artwork. Additionally, his titles offer interpretative clues without imposing a fixed meaning, leaving room for the viewer’s imagination. -
