Paisagens Sonoras: Mariannita Luzzati
“Cities are the only method humanity has created to structure our societies, but at the same time, in order to build these structures, nature has been completely ignored. Urban centers remain a hostile environment for all forms of life—including our own.”
Paisagens Sonoras is an installation composed of six large-scale paintings developed from photographs of landscapes in Rio de Janeiro and Vitória (ES). These pieces are in constant dialogue with the accompanying sound installationproposed by the artist, reintroducing human interferences that were previously removed from the paintings—now present in the ambient sound circulating through the exhibition space.
Luzzati explores the idea of erasing traces of civilization in her paintings in order to restore the primary conditions of landscapes and their original environments.
In this new series, the artist revisits these landscapes by removing urban areas, returning them to a more natural state.
The sound installation functions as an attempt to create a "living memory" of these spaces, immersing visitors in the everyday sounds of the urban environments depicted in the paintings.
The juxtaposition of these contrasting elements—the sounds of human presence against the apparent emptiness evoked by the images—recreates the original natural state of these landscapes, placing the viewer in a moment of reflection and contemplation.
