O Livro das Questōes: Rosana Ricalde

7 May - 16 July 2011 São Paulo
Overview
…As a child, when I first wrote my name, I became aware that I was beginning a book…

In Rosana Ricalde’s work, words become images. The possibilities created by their combinations reveal an infinite interplay between concept and representation. In this relationship, the tension between elements that make up her pieces instills instability and fragility into the visual experience.

Continuing her exploration of literature and the world of books, Ricalde presents a series of installations, objects, and paintings, spanning her work from recent years up to her latest pieces from 2011. In these, she deconstructs meanings—both literally and figuratively—reconfiguring concepts and texts to propose a new aesthetic reading.

Works such as O Poema do NaveganteOne Thousand and One Nights, and The Travels of Marco Polo, as well as atlases and dictionaries, contribute to this new poetic world, shaped through Rosana’s intricate cut lines and writings.

A special discovery that organizes the artist’s ideas in this exhibition is The Book of Questions by Franco-Egyptian poet Edmond Jabès, offering a conceptual structure to Ricalde’s exploration of text, image, and meaning.
