Vasconcelos assembles together elements from the domestic environment to create a different reality and provide a whole different meaning to them. And while doing that, she reflect on women’s condition, the status quo, and why we do things the way we do.

3. Updating the arts & crafts concept to the 21st century

Although lawn decorations and crocheted works are often associated with domesticity, Vasconcelos transforms them into high art, challenging the art establishment’s traditional conceptions of artistic value. Within the ambiguity of her combined symbols, she reveals the face of domesticity, its double-binding nature of simultaneous entrapment and protection.

4. Symbolism and narrative

In the artists own words "I am inviting people to question the way we do things and the traditions associated with the symbols. Do they still make sense in this day and age?" 

5. Irony and humour

With an attractive sense of humor and avoiding dogmatism, her work also explores identity issues ranging from very intimate issues to universal socio-political issues, such as emigration or the exploitation of women, linked to globalized post-colonial societies.
