On the 10th anniversary of the exhibition ‘Tocata e Fuga – Poemas Abstratos’ at Baró Galpão, Baró Galeria celebrates the legacy of the late Felipe Ehrenberg.
A co-participant of the Fluxus movement during his stay in England, Felipe Ehrenberg (Mexico, 1943-2017) addressed essential postmodern issues related to the construction of national identity, questioning bureaucratic and institutional information systems, and above all, the image and identity of his own country.
For ‘Tocata e Fuga’, the artist presented for the first time in his career a series of abstract works on paper, developed on the eve of his return to Mexico. The collection of works combined techniques from the 16th and 17th centuries, including watercolor, charcoal, and sanguine, as well as collage. The exhibition marked Ehrenberg’s farewell to Brazil, after 13 years in the country as Mexico's cultural attaché.
A year earlier, a large monograph dedicated to the artist was held at the main hall of Baró Galpão: ‘Apocalipstick’ (2013).
