Gary Hill is featured in the exhibition Electric Op with his seminal work Black/White/Text (1980), organized by the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and now on view at the Musée d’arts de Nantes from April 4 to August 31, 2025. While the piece may initially be interpreted through an op art lens, its true foundation is linguistic in nature. This linguistic dimension is further emphasized by the inclusion of the same work in the exhibition Of Anarchy in Music: More Journeys in Sound, co-organized by the Centre Pompidou and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, where the show is currently on display. The title of this latter exhibition seems to resonate more directly—albeit subtly—with the nature of Hill’s work. Interestingly, the two exhibitions partially overlap in dates, with the Pompidou show running from April 12 to July 6, 2025.
