Penetrable / Impenetrable

Jesús Soto and Eugenio Espinoza at Casal Solleric

Jesús Soto and Eugenio Espinoza — two emblematic figures in Latin American art history — come together for the first time at Casal Solleric, Mallorca. We are pleased to invite you to Penetrable / Impenetrable, a unique opportunity to experience, side by side, two groundbreaking works that have redefined the boundaries of art since the mid-20th century. Soto’s iconic Penetrable (Ciudad Bolívar, 1923 – Paris, 2005) stands as one of the most sophisticated expressions of the kinetic movement born in Paris in the late 1960s. In dialogue, Espinoza’s Impenetrable (San Juan de los Morros, 1950), conceived in Caracas in 1971, acts as a counter-narrative — a youthful and decolonial gesture challenging geometric abstraction and kinetic art at the time.

Though created over fifty years ago, both works remain radically experimental and timeless, reaffirming their ongoing relevance.
