Fernando Renes: Merkurioren Disidentzia

at El Polvorín de la Ciudadela, Spain

Fernando Renes presents Merkurioren disidentzia / The Dissidence of Mercury at El Polvorín de la Ciudadela in Pamplona, on view from October 3 to November 16, 2025. This exhibition is the artist’s first dedicated entirely to drawing, a medium that has been central to his practice since the 1990s.

The show brings together 33 drawings on paper, created with ink, acrylics, and watercolors, in some cases incorporating collage, alongside a striking mosaic of tiles that welcomes visitors into the exhibition space. Most of the works were produced during the past year, though the presentation also includes earlier pieces and layered collages where drawings from different periods coexist. Renes also unveils, for the first time, a selection of small-format sketches from his personal notebooks — intimate seeds of ideas that sometimes evolve into future works and, at other times, remain as private records of his inquisitive mind.

With The Dissidence of Mercury, Renes returns to the immediacy and playfulness of drawing after years of focusing on ceramics, particularly mosaics. The exhibition highlights his exploration of drawing as both a symbolic and imaginative practice, inviting audiences to engage with the works beyond economic value, embracing instead their poetic and creative potential.
