David Medalla opens "El cielo es negro de noche" at Caniche, Ibarrangelu, in collaboration with Baró

David Medalla (Manila, 1942–2020) opens "El cielo es negro de noche" at Iturribide Etxea, the exhibition space run by Caniche in Ibarrangelu, in the Urdaibai region of the Basque Country, in collaboration with Baró. The exhibition brings together several of Medalla's self-creative foam and sand machines, works in which the artist sets the conditions and allows chance to shape forms that grow, overflow, disappear and begin again, alongside photographs, textile pieces and video works tied to his "instant poetic actions" and his long collaboration with partner Adam Nankervis. The show includes two videos by Renata Padovan documenting actions by Medalla and Nankervis, "Tulips for Iguazu" (2010) and "Sous le pont Mirabeau. Homage to Guillaume Apollinaire" (2013). The exhibition opens Saturday, September 26, from 12:00 to 19:00, at Iturribide Etxea, Ibinaga Auzoa 14, Ibarrangelu, and remains on view by appointment through November 21, 2026.
