ARCO Lisboa 2023: Sidival Fila

Overview

Booth S08

Baró Galeria is pleased to announce its participation in ARCOLisboa 2023, presenting a solo exhibition by artist Sidival Fila: Artificial Nature.

The theme of the pieces embodies an ecological vision that is not anthropocentric or ideological, rather, it refers to an integral vision of man and the habitat in which he lives in, highlighting the right relationship to be established with the many “subjects” in the equation: nature with its plants, trees, animals, insects and the infinity of microorganisms that share the same spirit and make us One. The many “ones”, in relation to each other, create this body/universe.

Delving deeper into the series of works I am producing, they all have as their subject, flowers in their singularity, becoming in themselves “subjects” of art. Not in a plant, not in a vase like a still life, but as individuals with their “I’s” suspended in the metaphysical “non-space” of a canvas, devoid of any representative or descriptive reference.

This reaffirms that nature, with all that is and is not functional or necessary to the human being, is nonetheless constitutive of one’s being, an integral part of it; in other words, the human achieves his fullness, his integral identity, to the extent that he relates to all that exists as a subject, recognizing the whole as part of himself.
