Baró is pleased to announce its participation in The Armory Show 2026 with a solo presentation by Japanese artist Ayako Rokkaku (b. 1982, Tokyo), making her debut at the fair, at Booth 127, from 24 to 27 September.

For this year, Baró presents the debut at the fair of Japanese artist Ayako Rokkaku (b. 1982), following her recent exhibition with the gallery in Brazil. The presentation brings together a new series of nine paintings, including works on cardboard and canvas, exploring ideas of tactility, gesture, and material presence. Rokkaku paints with her fingers, translating the movement of her body onto the canvas. Her visual language shifts between abstract, gestural formations and figurative elements, drawing on Japan’s kawaii culture. Her paintings bring together opposing forces within the same image, such as irony and gentleness, or aggressiveness and delicacy, allowing tension to surface within otherwise familiar, playful imagery.

Self-taught, Ayako Rokkaku began painting in the early 2000s and received the Akio Goto Prize early in her career. Since then, her work has been shown internationally, with recent solo exhibitions including Trails of Life in the Air, CICA Vancouver, Canada, and For the Moments You Feel Paradise, Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid. Her work is held in institutional collections including the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum (Bratislava), the Voorlinden Museum (Netherlands), and the Gunma Museum of Art (Japan), among others.
