• Art Cologne 2026: Eva Lootz

    Booth C-301

For Art Cologne, Baró presents a solo presentation by Eva Lootz (b. 1940, Vienna), one of the pioneering figures of Spanish sculpture since the late 1960s. Bringing together works from the 1980s to the present, the booth traces a practice in which matter is never simply a medium for representation, but something that behaves, changes, and generates meaning. The selection includes Vasija de arena (Sand Vessel, 1986), works from the Paños (Cloths) series of the 1990s, and a group of Lenguas (Tongues), a recurring motif in Lootz's work since the 1980s.

Working with humble and unstable materials such as sand, felt, paraffin, and wax, Lootz creates forms that occupy an ambiguous space between object, body, landscape, and language. The tongue becomes at once a bodily organ and a linguistic structure; fabric records processes of pressure, folding, and transformation; and sand continuously shifts between containment and dispersal. Her drawings, presented along the exterior walls of the booth, extend this investigation into a more intimate register, a parallel form of writing that at times functions as a diary.

The presentation follows the artist's first comprehensive solo exhibition in a German-speaking country, held at Kunsthaus Baselland in 2025–26 in collaboration with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, after her major retrospective there in 2024.
