Joana Vasconcelos at the Uffizi in Florence

From the 4th of October until the 14th of January 2024

BETWEEN SKY AND HEART is the title of the exhibition that the Portuguese artist, represented by Baró Galeria, will exhibit at the renowned Uffizi Galleries and Pitti Palace in Florence, between the 4th of October 2023 and the 14th of January 2024. An honor rarely granted to contemporary artists that came from the invitation by the institution's director, Eike Schmidt.

The exhibition will bring together a selection of large-format pieces and will continue with Vasconcelos' initiative to expose the work of women artists, which began in 2016.

"The building itself constitutes the framework of artistic production, regardless of the century from which it comes. This space has the magical power to erase time, it’s like a time machine. The most wonderful thing about the Uffizi is the history of art" she concludes.

I am a contemporary artist and I would never have dreamed of exhibiting alongside works by Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo or Caravaggio. This invitation from the Uffizi director is a great honor. Because, regardless of living or dead artists, the most important thing is the dialogue that is generated between the works.

- Joana Vasconcelos

The series of exhibitions dedicated to women artists continues with a group of large installations by one of the most internationally renowned contemporary artists. We are very proud to welcome Joana Vasconcelos' first ever exhibition in our city.
