Overview
Amparo Sard (b. 1973, Mallorca) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist whose work unfolds through delicate perforated paper drawings, resin sculptures, videos, and site-specific installations.
Her creative journey began with surreal self-portraits punctured into small sheets of paper — a meditative process that evolved into large-scale fiberglass works, aluminum sculptures, resin paintings, and mixed-media installations. Through minimal gestures like piercing, Sard explores inner tensions, the disconnect between outward perception and interior reality, and the subtle mechanics of consciousness. Her expressive works evoke emotional resonance through formal restraint and sensory disruption.
Academically established, Sard holds a BFA and PhD from the University of Barcelona and an MA from The New School University, New York. She is a professor and head of studies at the University of Fine Arts of the Balearic Islands. Her artistry—recognized with prestigious awards such as the Deutsche Bank International Prize and the Italian Government Gold Medal—continues to surface in major museum exhibitions and esteemed collections worldwide.
