Estevan Davi at the 16th Gwangju Biennale

South Korea

Estevan Davi has been selected to participate in the first-ever Brazilian Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale, one of Asia's leading contemporary art events.

From 5 September to 15 November 2026, the 16th Gwangju Biennale will bring together artists and curators from around the world under the artistic direction of Ho Tzu Nyen. Titled You Must Change Your Life, this edition explores the transformative potential of art in responding to the social, political and ecological urgencies of our time.

As part of this historic edition, Brazil will present its first national pavilion at the Biennale. Curated by Aldones Ninoand Bruna Levi, the exhibition Devorações do Amanhã – Brasil em rebento brings together 35 Brazilian artists from different generations and regions, offering a broad perspective on contemporary artistic production in Brazil. Inspired by the concept of Brazilian anthropophagy, the exhibition proposes "devouring" as a critical strategy for reimagining the future through processes of transformation, resistance and cultural exchange.
